The making of sound investments is what God expects of those who belong to Him (Matthew 25:16). Believers are God’s stewards of their lives and wealth and must give an account to Him of their stewardship which He will judge as being ‘wise’ or ‘unwise’. God owns everything, including you and me! (Psalm 24:1)
After giving several reasons as to why the earth is not a wise place to store-up treasure, Jesus said that heaven is the place that is safe-enough for us to make investments, that will both appreciate and last forever (Matthew 6:19-20).
The Spanish Proverb ‘There are no pockets in a burial shroud’ implies we can’t take anything with us when we die (Naked we came into this world and naked we will leave). This being the case, how can we manage (invest) God’s valuables on earth in such ways that will benefit us in our eternal stay in heaven? The simple answer is this: While we can’t take God’s valuables with us when we die, we can forward them on to where they will be received and credited to our individual accounts in the Bank of Heaven. How does this happen?
You invest in heaven by simply devoting quality time, talent, and treasure in the lives of those who are known to you, beginning with your family, then extending to friends and strangers… yes, including foes! With each investment made, your Heavenly Father is glorified and a lasting reward is credited to your heavenly account that will await your arrival there. Any investment, regardless of size, that supports the physical and spiritual well-being of others is a worthy investment. The Lord invested everything within His control, including the laying-down of His life on a cross, to meeting the holistic needs of others (Including you and me!).
Friends, God’s view of ‘making investments on earth that count’ has nothing to do with making money but everything to do with the making of disciples – the expansion of His Kingdom on earth! Investments that are guaranteed to survive our depreciating world are ‘caring-for-people that honour God’ investments.
Remember this: While you are free to spend or invest the valuables the Lord has entrusted into your stewardship; you are not free from one day having to give an account to Him concerning the management of such valuables that will be measured by what has resulted.
Through the Spirit’s guidance, you can make sound investments that help others and honour God – simple, secure and satisfying investments that really count.
