Friends, everyone who has ever lived has two appointments that must be kept… neither of which we can enter into our diaries because we don’t know the date of either. One is the day of our death, and the other is the day of our judgement. In an earlier article I mentioned that ‘the return of Christ’ is the most frequently predicted event in the Bible (318 times), and the second most frequently predicted event is the Day of Judgement, the subject of this article.
There are many appointments in life we can choose not to keep but the Day of Judgement is not one of them! Paul wrote, “For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body” (2 Corinthians 5:10).
Concerning these appointments, it’s a wise person who thinks about the two. If you think about both, it is more likely to make you not sin. However, if you only think about the day of your death, it is more likely to make you sin more… Thinking to yourself, “Let’s drink and be merry for tomorrow we die… so let’s squeeze every pleasure out of life as we can… while we can.”
Life on earth has conditioned us to accept judgement as a normal and necessary part of managing life through accepted Judicial systems. We all demand justice now as life on earth is not fair – It’s where wrong is often advantaged and right disadvantaged. David cried-out to God… “Look at these wicked people – enjoying a life of ease while their riches multiply” … “I tried to understand why the wicked prosper, but what a difficult task it is” (Psalm 73:12, 16).
The injustices of life demand that one day all will be put right and evil people will not get away with it. They will get what they deserve! This is what we want, and this is what we will get on the day of our second appointment, the Day of Judgement!
Friends, The Day of Judgement is ‘The Day of God’s anger’- the day when His anger explodes! Now is the time before it’s too late for us to deal with any known sin in our lives! Concerning The Day of Judgment, there are four things we know:
Firstly, every person who has ever lived will be resurrected. They will receive a body. They will stand completely transparent to be judged.
Secondly, the Human Jesus will be the Judge as He is the One who has the right and ability to see through each of us.
Thirdly, the kind of evidence that will not be considered to acquit any person of sin is appearance, profession, and reputation. The evidence that will be considered are our ‘deeds’ and ‘our words’ … All that we have said and done has been/is being recorded and will be weighted on God’s perfect scales of Justice! (Matthew 12:36, Luke 12:3.) Yes, every so-called secret will be exposed and judged!
Fourthly, Scripture tells us that everyone will be judged according to the amount of ‘light’ they have received from their conscience and from God’s creation (Romans 1:18-20).
So, being aware of The Day of Judgement should motivate each of us to do whatever is necessary to make us ready for that appointment so that we may be acquitted of our sins, through complete repentance and genuine belief in Jesus… the One who paid for our transgressions.
Best wishes
