The Promise of Heaven – 1

Is Heaven a real place or is it another Hollywood produced make-believe fantasy? Most of the world believe that heaven is either a place of fiction or fable… produced and promoted by the Church to give false hope to the naïve and easily impressionable.

Many today reject the notion that there is a heaven without examining the teachings of the Bible, preferring instead to believe their own ignorance or the ignorance of others to determine the veracity of heaven, thereby gambling foolheartedly with their lives, denying themselves from experiencing a hope of heaven that lies beyond the grave that is on offer by God to every person, NOW… not later!

After death, every person will know for certain if indeed heaven is real or not. But, after death will be too late for any person to change his/her mind about heaven. Friends, a ‘no’ decision for heaven NOW by any person determines a ‘yes’ decision for hell, after they die! At the Day of Judgement every person will find themselves either being ‘thrown into’ Hell or welcomed into Heaven, based on the most important decision of their lives – a decision they must make concerning Jesus. Do you know of Him or do you know Him?

A website search of Heaven revealed this statement by Wikipedia: Heaven is often described as a “highest place”- the holiest place… a Paradise, in contrast to the “low places” of hell or the Underworld.

While most of the world’s population has little or nothing to say about Heaven, the Bible is bubbling over with information. Incidentally, the words, ‘Heaven’ and ‘heavens’ are mentioned 913 times in the New Living Translation of the Bible – Here are three samples: Psalm 18 … “God reached down from Heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters” (v 16). In this verse, Heaven refers to a placePsalm 71… “Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the highest heavens. You have done such wonderful things. Who can compare with you, O God?” (v 19). In this verse, heavens refer to the world’s atmospheric expanse (the sky above), including outer space.Matthew 6… Jesus taught His disciples, “Pray like this: Our Father in Heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven (vv 9,10). In this verse, Heaven refers to a place.

Several questions worth considering: What do you know about Heaven? What has been the source of your knowledge? Is Heaven a place that is real or is it make-believe? Are you sure, or are you in doubt? Do you care enough to be sure? Does your life on earth indicate confidence that your future address is Heaven? Are your hands firmly gripping terra-firma or are they extended heavenward? Friends, Heaven has been promised to those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
