The Promise of Heaven – 3

Scripture says that God is creating a new Heaven and a new earth… Who for?

Firstly, let’s consider thosewho will not make it into Heaven. From the Books of Romans and Revelation we read, “For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. He will judge everyone according to what they have done” … “God will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil…” (Romans 2:5-9). “All were judged according to their deeds” … “Anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15).

Now, let’s consider those who will be welcomed into Heaven. Writing to believers, the Apostle John said… “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life” (1 John 5:11-13).

Heaven is the home address for those who ‘have’ Jesus, through ‘believing’ in Him. “Believing” is a ‘present-continuous tense’ verb. Yes, believers can, and many will, stop believing in Jesus before the Day of Judgment! (This will be fleshed-out in greater detail in a later article.)

Friends, I have shared with you but a small taste of Heaven. Through personal investigation, you can know a great deal more… more than enough to satisfy your curiosity of all the ‘must know’ truths of Heaven.

Please, I urge you to live constantly watchful and ready for the return of Christ, and be excited about your special welcome into Heaven… the New Jerusalem, where we will live with our Heavenly Father, Jesus, and all the saints. In the last chapter of the Book of Revelation, John recorded, “Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the centre of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever” (22:1-5).

Friends, my testimony is this; Through the completed work of Christ on the cross, my home address is Heaven… promised to me and held in trust through my unshakeable faith in Him, my Lord and Saviour. I sincerely hope to see you there.

Best wishes
Bill Joukhadar
