In 1982, Steven Spielburg produced and directed the blockbuster film, ‘E.T.’ This fictional story is of a young boy named Elliott who befriends an extra-terrestrial, dubbed E.T. One night, after his space craft had crash-landed in a nearby field, and feeling quite disoriented, E.T. stumbled into the back yard of Elliott’s home.
Even though Elliot and E.T. quickly formed a close relationship, there soon came the time when E.T. longed to go home. In Elliot’s presence and with deep-longing in his voice E.T. pointed his finger towards the night-sky and cried… ‘Hommme’.

Quite often we are asked the question, “Where’s home?” Whenever this happens, we respond with details of a specific location where we normally reside. On earth, while we are alive, home can be wherever we choose to live. If a person has the desire, money and energy they can choose to live at a different location every day of their lives! However, when we die, only one of two places will be home, either Heaven or hell. And, it’s up to each one of us while we are alive to choose which place that will be. This may shock some of you to know that from the moment of conception in our mother’s womb our sin-nature had us on a pathway to hell! Yes, at that precise moment in time our sin-nature had determined our eternal home and kept it a secret from us! (Psalm 51:5…Romans 3:23, 6:23.)
However, motivated by our Heavenly Father’s great love, grace and mercy for humanity – and knowing of our plight – sent His Son, Jesus, to be His offer of the optional home choice of Heaven where we may live with Him in His family, forever! When someone chooses to repent of their sins, and believes in Jesus, Jesus becomes their passage way to Heaven. The Book of John records Jesus as saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me” (14:6). Until a person makes that choice, their unredeemed condition has them destined for hell… their future home!
Friends, did you know that during the three years of Jesus’ public ministry, He taught more about hell than about heaven! And, you may be surprised to know that Jesus did not teach unbelievers about hell, but to those who had already professed faith in Him! Why? Because, unless a follower of Jesus continues to live a repentant life and continues to believe in Jesus (Mark 1:15) that person will continue to be hell-bound!
People today joke about heaven and hell. Very few take it seriously… treating the matter as incidental, fictional, make-believe places. Such people think that heaven and hell are for the weak-minded. The bottom line is this: God has given each of us a free-will to make that all-important decision. What about you? Where’s ‘Hommme’?
Best wishes
