Now, please don’t be quick to jump to conclusions. Even though I served my country for 12 years in military service as an aircraft weapons technician, I firmly believe that Christians should not be warmongers. Today’s article is not about the military and it’s not about the handling of physical weapons. It’s about God not being a pacifist – God who is on the war path! Scripture says that when Jesus returns to earth He will come with a sharp double-edged sword to “wage a righteous war” (Rev. 19:11)! Friends, those who belong to God greatly honour Him through becoming proficient handlers of spiritual weapons!
In 2003, the United States of America initiated an all-out military offensive against the regime of Saddam Hussein of Iraq. Wikipedia reports… “The Iraq War was a protracted armed conflict that began with the invasion of Iraq by the United States-led coalition which overthrew the Iraqi government of Saddam Hussein. The US Bush administration based its rationale for the Iraqi War on the claim that Iraq had a ‘weapons of mass destruction’ program, and that Iraq posed a threat to the United States and its allies.”
Well, the Iraq conflict is now long past and Saddam Hussein is long gone, no longer able to pose as a threat to the United States and its allies. No, the much-feared weapons of mass destruction were not discovered in the military’s extensive search of Iraq. Does that mean that global peace efforts have been able to move forward towards achieving the much-coveted goal? Sadly, no!
The real weapons of mass destruction… the real threat to mankind… exists with increasing devastating affect by stealth. The real enemy is the alliance of Satan and his cohort of fallen angels. Their weapons of mass destruction are his cleverly devised propaganda of deadly lies and poisonous shades of truth, bringing about wide-spread lawlessness, chaos, fear and panic.
Even though the Book of Revelation reveals the final outcome of this great conflict between good and evil, prescribing certain doom for Satan and his alliance, should we sit back as non-combatant observers? No! We’ve been assigned a key role to play in this spiritual war. Satan has been at work since the beginning of time and we must rally to the fight with urgency, with weapons in hand. “What weapons,” do you say? Paul said to the church at Corinth, “We faithfully preach the truth. God’s power is working in us. We use the weapons of righteousness in the right hand for attack and the left hand for defence” (2 Cor. 6:7).
Victory against Satan and his evil alliance is gained through the demonstration and declaration of God’s truth .. through the right handling of the weapons of righteousness to attack and defend against all evil. Living righteously is ‘the’ only way to war successfully against the enemy in and through our lives. Writing to the church at Ephesus, Paul said, “Put on Salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (6:17). We know how successful our Lord was in warring against Satan’s triad of temptations through His use of the Word of God in the wilderness (Matt. 4:1-11).
Friends, I have not taken a back-seat in this most serious global conflict to leave the fight to Jesus when He returns. Living righteously NOW and speaking the truth of God EVERY DAY with my life is my chosen way to engage our arch enemy, both in attack and defence. Honestly, how effective are you as a spiritual weapons handler for God? Victory for you in the greatest war the world will ever know depends on you being an effective weapons handler. The War of all wars is being waged in and around us right now!
Best wishes,
Bill Joukhadar
