The Importance of Belonging – ‘You Say’

“In the absence of love and belonging, there is always suffering.” Dr Brene Brown,

‘Braving the Wilderness’ interview on Marie TV, September 2017.

Humanity was always created to be in intimate proximity to God. It’s in that relationship that we know how to love one another (1 John 4:19) and we are told in the Word that the world will know that we are His disciples by our love for one another (John 13:35). This attitude of love is the essence of true belonging.

The following Scriptures reinforce the truth that once we have invited Jesus to be the Lord of our lives, we belong to Him fully. There is such reassurance in knowing we are never alone.

We belong to Him and all that He has to offer us – peace, joy, love, forgiveness, kindness and so much more. To believe otherwise truly does bring suffering (above quote). We can feel lost, abandoned, rejected, and so very isolated. This is not what God intended for us.

Romans 8:16 “For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as He whispers into our innermost being, ‘You are God’s beloved child!’ And since we are His true children, we qualify to share all His treasures, for indeed, we are heirs of God Himself.”

Ephesians 1:4 -“In Christ, He chose us before the world was made. He chose us in love to be His holy people—people who could stand before Him without any fault.”

Hebrews 10:24-25 – “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.”

Do you know who you are? Do you know whose you are?

In invite you to reflect on these questions as you listen to these powerful lyrics.

This is what Lauren said about her song “You Say” …

“This song for me was just a reminder of identity. It was a reminder that I know when I’m weak, He’s strong – so how do I change that and bring it into my everyday life? When I feel inadequate, how is it that there’s always these moments where I feel like God just steps in and supersedes my inadequacies?”
