Guest Author, Marian Dyer, reminds us of the invitation given to each one of us by Jesus to sit at His feet, soak in His presence and recognise that He is perfectly capable of providing everything we need … if we will only make the time to enjoy being with Him. Ed.
“Now they were on their way, Jesus entered a village [called Bethany], and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was continually listening to His teaching. But Martha was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities; and she approached Him and said, “Lord, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to do the serving alone? Tell her to help me and do her part.” But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42 (AMP)
This takes guts. When the pressure is on to perform, to fit in, to do what you’re told, it takes strength to choose the way you know is right.
There are all sorts of reasons and pressures that surround you; not just the expectations of others, but expectations you put on yourself to get things done. There are also all sorts of distractions that are put out to tempt you away from My presence.
Mary’s way was the better choice. To sit at My feet while I was present on earth was a one and only opportunity. It may have seemed unfair to Martha, but all things required were dealt with in time.
Do you think I would not have been capable of providing the meal? (See John 6:1-16).
It comes to recognising the time of My presence. Yes, I am with you always, even to the end of the world, but My invitation to you is to sit in the intimate place with Me. It is just as imperative now as it was then.
“Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink—even if you have no money. Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free! Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. “Come to me with your ears wide open. Listen, and you will find life.” Isaiah55:1-3a (NLT)
