Lift Up Your Eyes

Today our Youth Author, Alina Mathews, helps us to correctly focus on God’s kingdom by standing on His word and not giving into the cheap alternative that the world would try to convince us is superior. Ed.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth”
Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV)

In today’s consumerism culture, I find it much too easy to fall into the trap of not only rushing from one thing to another, but also wanting more

Whether that may be more praise, more money, more time or more success, our fleshly desires can cause us to think that all these earthly things are what we need to be or accomplished.

But Psalm 34:9-10 says, ‘Fear the Lord, you His holy people, for those who fear Him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing’.

No matter what those around us might lead us to think we need in our lives, the Bible says that the Lord knows our needs before we ask (Matthew 6:8).

All we have to do is ‘Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well’. Matthew 6:33 (NIV).

So today I encourage you, if you are feeling the pressures of society to gain more and do more with your life, lift up your eyes to the One who holds the power over all creation.

He is the One in whom we find total fulfilment.
